1951, 1970, and 1979 BW photos were from Rockville Historical Society, and then scanned, mosaiced, and registered.

1993 (colorized) - I added the color from 1998 to the 1993 BWs, so not an official release (John Nelson [cartographer affiliated with Esri] posted simple video instructions for colorizing on social media – up to you whether or not to include)

This application provides access to the County's property inforation. The user can search for an address and identify property information, including sewer and water categories. The property data is maintained by Montgomery County Planning. Parcel ownership and address information, parcel valuation information and basic information about the land and structure(s) associated with a given tax assessment account are maintained by SDAT and incorporated with parcel boundaries and other ancillary information maintained by the Montgomery County Planning Department. The Communities layer was created in 2009 to describe areas often referenced by denizens, as many areas of the County are not within an official municipality with city limits. The five Regional Services Center directors at the time worked with DTS-GIS (now TEBS) staff to create geographic areas with which citizens identify, since some of the general place names such as “Bethesda” and “Silver Spring” can cover large swaths of the County and are not specific enough for certain purposes. At first, they looked at existing layers such as Census Designated Places, Zip Codes, and municipalities, but the directors found that these other layers either didn't cover the entire County or else didn't really represent the locations to which citizens commonly refer. DTS-GIS staff prepared paper maps for the directors so they could use existing geographic features as a guide as they marked areas within their own service regions. The polygons in this layer are the result of that effort.
Negative of Montgomery County. Users can add to a web map and adjust color and transparency to shade areas surrounding the County slightly darker than areas within the County. Recommend turning off popups and legend for this layer inside your web maps to avoid any user confusion on applications created from a web map that includes this layer.
Street Centerline data is continuously updated based on approved developments and input from other departments. This feature service is updated weekly, on Fridays.

While USPS does not make an up-to-date geographic layer of zip codes available, TEBS-GIS uses various available sources to provide as accurate boundaries as possible for zip codes used for mailing address. Updated continually as needed.
Because zip code areas overlap county boundaries, this layer - which cuts off at the county boundary - should not be used to join with statistics by zip code; zip codes that overlap with neighboring counties would not reflect the data accurately mapped to this layer. Census zip code tabulation areas do not cut off at county boundaries and thus are better suited for mapping statistics by zip code.

The Communities layer was created in 2009 to describe areas often referenced by denizens, as many areas of the County are not within an official municipality with city limits. The five Regional Services Center directors at the time worked with DTS-GIS staff to create geographic areas with which citizens identify, since some of the general place names such as “Bethesda” and “Silver Spring” can cover large swaths of the County and are not specific enough for certain purposes.
As County departments used the Communities layer, they realized it would be useful to immediately see it in the context of which areas were within the city limits of one of the County's municipalities. Hence, this layer was created to provide the \"best of both worlds.\"
Montgomery County is an Exception Grantee, meaning that the highest quartile of block groups for low- and moderate-income percent constitute the areas where Area Benefit may be applied, even though all areas contain less than 51% low- and moderate-income persons. Montgomery County’s exception threshold for 2023 is 42.88%. 160 block groups qualify based on this threshold.

The Census Bureau created zip code tabulation areas for statistical purposes by adjusting postal zip codes slightly to coincide with Census Block boundaries. As zip codes do not always follow County boundaries, some of the zip code tabulation areas extend into neighboring counties. Because this layer will differ from USPS zip codes in locations where the postal zip code splits a street block, this layer should not be used for determining mailing zip code at an address.

The RESIDENTIAL PARKING PERMIT program has been in effect for over 40 years. It was initiated in an effort to provide relief for residents whose neighborhoods are impacted by certain public facilities, land uses and adjacent commercial districts. This program was enacted into law in Section 31-48 of the County Code. Outside of central business district areas only single-family dwelling units are eligible to participate in the program. For those eligible multi-family dwelling units impacted, residential permit parking can be considered. This Dataset is maintained by Department of Transportation.
